AI SEO services from an independent GEO consultant

In shortAI SEO, also called generative engine optimization (GEO), is the work that gets your business named and linked when buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews who to hire. It starts with the $700 Visibility Audit, which records what those tools say about you today. The ongoing work runs inside the $2,500 Growth Partner retainer.

Start with the audit

What is included

  • A baseline: what ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews say about you for the questions your buyers ask
  • A check that the crawlers AI search tools rely on can reach and read your site
  • A check that search engines and AI tools can tell who you are and what you do
  • A ranked list of fixes, most valuable first, that you keep either way
  • Ongoing in Growth Partner: two new pages a month written to be quoted, and a monthly AI visibility check

More buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google who to hire before they visit a single website. If those tools name a competitor and not you, you lose the enquiry without ever knowing it existed. AI SEO is the work of finding out what these tools say about your business, why, and what to change so they name you.

What is AI SEO, and is it different from SEO?

Less than the sales pitches suggest. Google's page on AI features and your website says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews, and its guide to generative AI in Search says optimising for AI search is still SEO. Outside Google, ChatGPT search and Perplexity both read the live web, so a page that cannot be crawled or ranks nowhere is unlikely to be quoted.

What AI SEO adds is a different question. SEO asks where you rank. AI SEO asks whether you are named, how you are described, and which sources the answer relied on. The GEO vs SEO guide sets out exactly where the two overlap and where they differ.

Good AI SEO is mostly good SEO, checked against what the AI answers actually say.

Who needs an AI SEO consultant?

Owners of established businesses whose buyers research before they get in touch. Typical starting points:

  • You asked ChatGPT who to hire for what you do, and it named a competitor. The guide to why ChatGPT recommends your competitor covers the usual reasons.
  • AI tools describe your business wrongly: an old address, a service you no longer offer, or a price that was never yours.
  • Your Google rankings are fine, but enquiries have dropped as buyers get answers without clicking.
  • An agency has offered you a GEO package and you want an independent view of whether you need it.

What does the work cover?

Five areas, each judged by one test: does it make you more likely to be named, and named correctly?

AreaWhat is doneWhy it matters
BaselineThe questions your buyers ask, put to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google, with the answers recordedYou cannot improve what you have not measured
Crawler accessChecking that the AI search crawlers, such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, can reach your siteA blocked crawler means you cannot be quoted
PagesQuestion-led pages that answer one buyer question clearly in the first linesClear, self-contained answers are what AI tools quote
IdentityStructured data and consistent facts about who you are and what you doTools that cannot tell who you are will not risk naming you
Third-party sourcesFinding the directories, reviews and lists the answers already rely onAI answers lean heavily on what others say about you

The guides go deeper on each: which AI crawlers to allow, what schema markup does for AI search, how to get cited by Perplexity and how to track whether ChatGPT mentions you.

How is it priced?

There is no separate GEO package, because the work does not split cleanly from SEO. It runs through the published packages:

  • The Visibility Audit, $700 fixed. The baseline, the checks above and a ranked list of fixes, delivered in 7 working days with a 45-minute walkthrough. You can fix the list yourself.
  • Growth Partner, $2,500 a month. Two new pages a month written to be quoted, a monthly AI visibility check, website care and ads, with a 3-month minimum.
  • The Rebuild, from $1,500. When the site itself is the problem, a rebuild includes question-led FAQs and structured data from the start.

What can AI SEO not promise?

A guaranteed position. AI answers change with the wording of the question, where the buyer is, which model answers and when. Anyone promising that ChatGPT will always recommend you is selling something they do not control.

Be wary too of single fixes sold as the answer. An llms.txt file is cheap and harmless, but Google lists AI text files among the things you do not need. What moves results is slower: pages that answer buyers' questions, facts about you that agree everywhere, and mentions on the sites the answers already trust. The honest measure is whether you are named more often, for more of the questions that matter, over months.

Why an independent consultant rather than a GEO agency?

Most AI SEO work is small, specific changes across your site and your listings, and it goes wrong when it is passed between a strategist, a writer and a developer. Here one person does all of it. Muhammad Afzal spent five years as a frontend engineer, including work at Nextbridge that made application loads 40% faster, so the crawler, speed and structured data fixes are made by the same person who writes the pages and reads the AI answers.

The trade-off is volume, as the freelancer vs agency comparison explains. One person suits a business that needs the right work done well, not a large content programme. The founder page has the full background.

How does it start?

  1. You send a short brief. What you sell, who buys it, and which questions you want to be named for. The form at the bottom of this page asks the right questions.
  2. Muhammad replies to confirm the questions and two competitors. These become the baseline.
  3. The audit is done within 7 working days. You get what each AI tool said, why, and a ranked list of fixes.
  4. You decide what comes next. Fix it yourself, continue with Growth Partner, or do nothing. The plan is yours either way.

Straight answers.

What owners ask before they book.

Is AI SEO the same as GEO and AEO?
Near enough. AI SEO, generative engine optimization (GEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO) are names for the same goal: being named and linked in AI answers. The labels differ more than the work does.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No, and nobody honestly can. Answers change with the question, the location and the model. What can be measured is whether you are named more often, for more of the questions that matter, month after month.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is cheap to add and does no harm, but it is not what decides whether AI tools recommend you. Google says it needs no special AI text files at all. Crawler access, clear pages and third-party mentions matter far more.
Which AI tools are checked?
ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews in the audit, and ChatGPT and Perplexity every month in Growth Partner. They are the tools buyers most often use to ask who to hire.
Do I need access to my website for this?
Not for the audit, which works from what is public. For ongoing work, page changes need access to your website, or a developer who can make them.
